How to restore Vista 64 in seperate partition next to existing one?

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I just bought Acronis True Image 2010 Home. I could need some advice how to do the following:

I have three partitions. First partition has XP 32, the second partition has Vista 64 and the third partition is empty.

I want to use your software now to make a full backup of Vista 64 and restore it as an additional OS to the third partition.

Vista 64 has the bootloader since it was installed after XP.

How would I do all that so in the end I have XP on Partition one, Vista 64 on partition 2 and the clone of Vista 64 from restore on partition 3 and all three are selectable in the bootloader menu ?

I hope I can do that with your software. That was kind of what I bought it for.

Thanks,
Michael

Hello Michael,

Thank you for using [[http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/ | Acronis True Image]]

Actually, the best way is to install Windows Vista from the scratch onto the third partition.

You can restore the archive, but in any case you should repair the BCD using Windows installation CD. You can repair Vista Boot Configuration Data in the following way:
1. Put the Windows Vista installation disc in the CD\DVD disc drive, and then (re)start the computer;
2. Press a key when you are prompted;
3. Select language, time, currency, keyboard or input method, and then click Next;
4. Click Repair your computer;
5. Click the operating system that you want to repair, and then click Next;
6. In the System Recovery Options dialog box click Command Prompt;
7. Type the following:
Bootrec.exe /FixMbr
Bootrec.exe /FixBoot

If you want to completely rebuild Boot Configuration Data, then you should issue the following command:
Bootrec.exe /RebuildBcd
This command scans all disks for installations that are compatible with Windows Vista. Additionally, this option lets you select the installations that you want to add to the Boot Configuration Data store.

Thank you.
