Thread needs solution

Hello All I have old domain controller server contian win2k3 server , the RAID configured RAID 0+1 and RAID 5 , I made image backup for hole system including the operating system partion by acronis true image echo with universial restore . I restord the image into new server (diffrent hardware ) after I configure the RAID in the same way of the old server. the point is when the restore finish the new server failed to start up, the windows logo coming up and then it restarts again. Please provide me how I can solve this problem . Thanks Please help me as soon as Poosible

Have you integrated the correct raid driver with UR? To be exact different hardware (CPU, GFX, I/O) is not that relevant, Storage Controller is the most important thing. If you have the correct driver for the storage controller integrated with the UR then restoring should work.

What exact error do you get when the system reboots (BSOD)?
Have you tried Safe Mode?

Cannot boot citrix vm

I'm having also the same problem with Backup & Recovery 10 Workstation incl. universal restore. I'm trying to restore a citrix virtual machine (Win XP) with boot-cd on xenserver 5.5 host. the vm stop on booting without any message on screen. Any suggestions from acronis support?

I have the same problem...
Backup and restore is done with Backup & Recovery 10 for Windows Servers 11133 boot cd with universal restore.
The old server (HP Proliant DL380 G3) and the new server (HP Proliant DL360 G5) don't need any additional drivers when installing (in my case) Windows 2003 Server Standard Sp1 out of the box, it finds everything, well not the nic but that's easily solved later on.
But when doing a restore of the DL380 image onto the DL360 it will not boot, I can see the Windows 2003 Server logo for maybe a 10th of a second then the server reboots. No time to boot into safemode or anything. Seems to me like it's a HAL thing but I've tried to boot from w2k3 sp1 cd and repair (R) and done the manual HAL replacement in the console.
I've also updated the bios in the DL360 and disabled some CPU-features just "for fun".
I downloaded all the RAID SAS drivers that I can find just to be sure and put them in UR...
Nothing.
Both servers have only one physical CPU although the DL380 reports 2 (hyperthreading) and the DL360 reports 4 (quad core maybe).

Hello all,

Thank you for using [[http://www.acronis.com/enterprise/ | Acronis Corporate Products]]

Spyridon,

To investigate the issue we need two diagnostic files. Could you please obtain them from the source and the target virtual machines?

The source VM:

Please download Acronis Report utility available here and run it, create a report and attach it to your next post. Please compress the Acronis Report output file into an archive (e.g. with WinZip) and attach to your message by browsing for the archive.
This would provide us with detailed information on the hard disk partition structure.

To obtain the same information from the new system please use the file I have sent to you via PMs. Please attach the file to your next post.

Jörgen,

To find the exact reason of the issue please create an e-mail request on this page, under Contact us click on the Start here button and follow the step-by-step guide. Let me know the case number via PMs.

Thank you.

Oleg,

here is the file from the source vm, that i create a backup. I have send you also a pm with infos to target vm.

Spyridon Kordonis

Hello Spyridon,

Thank you for the provided information.

I assume that the issue is related to the fact that Citrix systems have non-regular letters mapped to physical volumes. As a result, restore of a Citrix system can be problematic: the system may become unbootable showing different Winlogon errors, ctxgina.dll error or not finding system drive.

This occurs because whenever the volume SIDs or partition layout changes, Windows will re-letter the drives associated with the system. That is why it is important to obtain Acronis Report from the restored system.

Or you can view this article for more information, it contains Proactive and Reactive solutions on how to fix the boot issues on Citrix system.

Please let me know if you experience any difficulties in applying the solutions or if the system is still unbootable. I will resend the file to obtain Acronis Report from the restored system.

Thank you.

Hello Oleg, ich send the file without to zipp in docx format. I hope that's working now. Regards Spyridon

Hello Spyridon,

Thank you for the provided information.

I had to remove the attachments, because they contained some private information about your system.

Here is the content of your document without the screen shots:

Hello

I’m testing at the moment the new B&R10UR on Xenserver 5.5 vm. This cause I want to buy later more than 10 licenses from this tool.

For this test I have buy the new B&R10UR local Workstation License. I have local Workstation license, and I need to restore the backup file to a new vm from any network folder or NAS.

After a successfully installation of the new B&R10 in the source vm, i have made an iso-boot disk.

Acronis Issues with B&R10 universal Restore

1.       Can’t boot on new vm with my iso image, which I have created on source vm.

With my created boot image (iso file), when I try to boot the new vm, it stops after 3 or 4 seconds with no comments.

This is strange to me because, when i use the Acronis universal restore iso image from my account on theAcronis-web, then I can boot the new vm without any problems. Why I can’t do this with my own B&R10UR iso image?

You are unable to boot  Xen-based virtual machines from the standard Acronis Booting Rescue Media.Acronis Loader is incompatible with Xen-based virtual machines. You should use ISOLINUX Rescue Media for these purposes. Please see the appropriate article in our Knowledge Base for more information.

Cannot restore the backup file from network folder or NAS.

I’m trying to restore the image of the source vm on the target vm and I receive only errors, that the archive cannot be found.

When I change the view to tib files, then I can see that the backup file is also there.

This is normal behavior. If you create an archive from within Windows and then boot the system under Acronis Bootable Rescue Media based on Linux, you should browse for the archives to allow the Linux part of the program to detect the archives. And vice versa.

After selecting the backup file and pushed on OK button i receive only an error and can’t do anything with the restore. What is to do to restore any image file from network (or local) to a new target machine?

I can’t understand why i can’t restore from the backup file (tib). This Step it was always possible with the older Versions from the Acronis Tools. Is this a Bug? Can you send me e message, when a new build is available?

This issue needs a closer investigation.

- Could you please specify the IP address instead of the NAS name in the Path box of the Archive Selection window? See if the issue remains.

- Could you please copy the archive to a folder at the root of the NAS, browse for the backup and see if the issue remains (the path should be, for example, \\nas5200pro\test\ instead of  \\nas5200pro\backup\citrix\VM).

- Do you experience the same issue if you place the archive to a shared folder (not to a NAS drive).

We are looking forward to hearing back from you.

Thank you.

Hello Oleg

When i start the b&r10 tool i configure manually the ip address to the same subnet as the nas device. I have also tryied with the ip address instead of the nas name, for example: \\192.168.1.100\backup\citrix etc... I receive always the same error. I'm always logged into this folder with a specific user and right. The same loginuser and folder works fine with the older version of acronis (True Image 11 Home) and restore.

The only thing that i have not tested till yet, is to move the backupfile to another folder into the nas device. I will also try to restore from an usb harddisk with the same backup file.
I think this issue has with the definition of an archive to do, or something like that.
Or could it be that the problem occurs in connection with the network? Because my version of B&R10 a local and not an advanced version is?

I'll test this step and i give you then an answer, or the error in a word file.

Regards
Spyridon

Hello Spyridon,

Thank you for the provided information.

I assume that the issue is related to the improper access to the NAS drive. Could you please do the following?

Please boot the VM from the ISO file and select Recover. On the Recover data screen mark Advanced view box. Click Change next to Access credentials under What to recover. Provide username and password for the Linux NAS.

See if the issue remains and let us know the results.

Thank you.

I just solved the problem I had trying to restore a backup from a HP Proliant DL380 G3 running W2K3 Sp1 onto a HP Proliant DL360 G5 or G6. (Case Number 00357363)

After restoring the image onto the new server without any errors the server kept rebooting before the windows server 2003 logo appeared and I could not get it to boot right. I tried repairing the installation, copying hal.dll from RTM-cd's and what not.

It turned out to be a Windows Server 2003 SP1 HAL issue as I first suspected.
After upgrading the source server to SP2 take a new backup onto a USB-HDD using the Acronis linux boot cd and restore onto new server (bare metal) everything worked perfect!

I didn't have to play with CPU cores or hyperthreading in BIOS as some people mentioned. I can go straight from a 1 CPU config to a Quad core.
I didn't even have to specify any raid drivers (or any drivers at all) in universal restore, after the new server booted up I just inserted the HP Smartstart CD and let it install the drivers.

Just for fun I rolled back to SP1 on the source server and took a new backup... same reboot loop appeared.

Just adding some stuff that could be usefull to someone:
Regarding RAID-volume not showing up when going to restore

Today I was going to restore a backup I had on a USB HDD onto a new hardware (HP Proliant DL380 G6) that had eight 146GB SAS discs installed

I created two Raid5 volumes with 4 HDDs in each using the P410i smart-array utility (f8).
- Booted the Acronis Linux CD but it halted in the text-mode part leaving me with a linux-prompt so I tried the next option.
- Booted a WinPE acronis boot cd I had created (with no additional drivers specified), now the B&R utility showed up but found no drives in the server only my USB-HDD and the WinPE X: showed up

I booted the server on an old Windows 2003 server cd and in the "select partitions to install to" text part of the setup I created a partition on each of the raid volumes I created earlier and then rebooted the server without completing the W2K3 install, I didn't proceed with any formatting, just pressed F3 to exit setup.

Now I booted on the WinPE boot cd again and when the B&R utility showed up I had C: D: and my USB-HDD. Ran the restore and it all went fine... server up and running.

Conclusion: Sometimes the Acronis bood-cd can't find the destination disc-volumes if they aren't partitioned. It doesn't matter what you partition the volume with because the recovery will write it over later on.

Would like to ask what if the latest version Acronis 10 would that be able to cover the HP DL380 G7 ?
