I would like a snapshot function

Thread needs solution

Hi everyone.

I am using ABR11. It works fine for me. I use it mainly for the dedup. With it, I can backup all of my stuff easily onto a 2 TB USB disk.

But I would really like a "try and decide" function, or some kind of snapshotting software. This is available on the home versions of Acronis, such as True Image Home.

I find snapshots to be really useful in a number of scenarios.

I use it all the time inside of VMWare workstation.

But it is not available in the ABR software.

Does anybody have any suggestions for a solution to get a good snapshot of windows 7 ultimate? I don't think windows restore is a good snapshot, because I would want the whole disk locked. I've already thought of doing a backup, and then restore when I don't like the outcome. But this solution is clunky and inefficient. Try and Decide is efficient, but I don't think Acronis True Image Home can co-exist with ABR.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

John.

I'll answer my own question in case someone stumbles upon this and wonders about it.

I've done a bit of research into snapshotting technology. Given it's utility, I am suprised that it is not more mainstream. I have found RollBack Rx, which seems to be the best snapshotting technology around.

The only problem is, Rollback is does not seem to be compatible with Acronis. over on the Rollback Rx forums, Acronis backups will not backup and restore the Rollback snapshots at all. In fact, it seems to leave the restored system in a nonrecoverable state.

I am going to start a new Acronis thread about this.
