Image & Restore

Thread needs solution

Hello to everyone,

We are using Acronis backup & recovery 10 in our windows server 2008 for the backup. The server has 3 hard drives configured as Raid 5.We want to change the hard drivers with 3 new ones of bigger capacity. The server has place for the 3 new hard drivers so we don't need to take out the old hard drives. We suppose that the new hard drives have the same controller,my question is: can we use acronis backup and recovery in order to backup the old hard driver raid 5 and then restore to the new ones also configured as Raid 5?Many thanks in advance

Cheers

We suppose that the new hard drives have the same controller

I suppose that you meant drives' interface type. Hard drives themselves differ by interface type (SATA, SCSI, SAS) , not by controller type. If they have not the same interface type as you RAID controller, you won't be able to connect them to the controller (
As the controller type won't change during this migration, you need to check that it can be recognized by the bootable media. I'd create a full backup from live OS (Windows), then connect new drives to the controller, configure them in bios to the same RAID type, then boot from the linux-based bootable media and verify that it's recognized as the single disk. If it's not, plug the old drives back, create WinPE-based bootable media with the driver for you controller and repeat.
