Install a new hard drive

Thread needs solution

My old hard drive, which has 2 partitions, is dying and I want to install a new hard drive and transfer all the system files and data including to OS to the new drive and make it bootable.  If I try to clone the old drive, cloning wants to save to my external USB drive, the only other drive I have on my system for now.  It wants to delete files I already have on the external drive and I do not wish to lose these files.  I am using True Image 2009 on a Windows XP Professional system.  Could anyone please tell me what the solution or prcedure is.

Hello Gerard,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.

Unfortunately, cloning requires the deletion of destination drive, since it rewrites it with all data from the source. If you have only one drive and wish to keep information on it, you should create a backup instead if cloning. The difference between these operations described here.

Please keep in mind that full information about backup is available in 5 chapter of User's Guide, which can be downloaded here.

Thank you.
