Installation has failed

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I have installed the AMS and configured Vaults etc.
I am now trying to install the agent remotely to a Windows XP SP3.
I have followed page 15 in install guide (disable simpel file-sharing, firewall settings etc.)

I run the remote install wizrd from within the AMS console. However, when it comes to installing, all i get (after 20-40 seconds) is error pop-up "Installation has failed".

Running ABR 10 build 10.0.11639

Please advise!

Thank you for finding time to report about the issue! I understand your concern and will be glad to help you.

Unfortunately due to the lack of diagnostic information it is hard to identify the exact cause of the problem. So the situation requires investigation.

Please check the temp folder to be empty (Start -> Run -> %Temp%) and the services to be running. The following services should be started: Volume Shadow Copy, COM+ System Application, Distributed Transaction Coordinator (Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services).

Should all be fine and the installation still fails, please take the installation file to the target machine and run the process locally.

In case the issue persists even during the local installation, please gather the following data: 

  1. Windows System Information from the target machine
  2. MSI log

After that please kindly contact support directly with the information attached. Keep in mind that should there be any procrastination with the reply, you can always specify us the case number. We will do our best to speed up the process.

Thanks for your reply.
Well, I checked the services following your description above - all was ok. I was still unable to remote install the agent.
I then went on and installed it locally, and behold - succes!

However, locally installing more than 2000 clients would be a hidious task, even with script automation.

Having the feature in the ABR console suggest this should be possible, so what could be the cause of this?

Thank you for your reply and for keeping us posted.

You're absolutely right, since we do have such an ability, we need to fix the problem. Since the local installation runs fine, the cause should be the connectivity between the machines. Please kindly check this soltuion.

Should it fail to help, we'd like to track the network activity to see where the glitch is and would appreciate if you could provide support with the following: 

  1. MSI log of the remote installation
  2. Wireshark logs

Please submit a support request with this data attached and specifying that local installation works. I would appreciate if you could specify us the case number.
