Issues with Backup and Recovery 10 & 11

Thread needs solution

Ok so weve been having the following errors pop up from time to time on a few of our servers. Its happening on BR 10 and 11 installations.

The first issue is the error "cannot find specified archive", the backups fail because it cannot locate the archive to save them. However when I go to the management console and open the vault (locally attached USB hdd), the archive is there and I can open it and see all the individual backup files, I can even restore from them. But for some reason when the backup job runs it acts like the archive isnt there and once this occurs it will continue to occur until I delete the original archive and let it recreate it, but then we lose all our backup files.

The second issue is different from the first and a little less severe but annoying nontheless. The backups occasionally fail because the backup jobs loses its credentials for the vault (this only happens on network attached vaults) and thus cannot connect to it and see the archive. This is easily fixed by re-entering the credentials and resubmitting the backup job, but honestly I should'nt have to do this every 3-4 days. Why cant acronis permenantly save the credentials I give it?

Anyway, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi David

I see you mentioned you are using a USB attached HDD for your backups, Please could you make sure you are not using a “managed” vault as unless your HDD is never removed and always online you will run into issues (managed vaults need to be persistent storage).

Also another thing to check into is make sure you are using the ‘Name backup files using the archive name’ this will give you allot more reliable backups when backing upto removable media that might be taken offline or changed with another drive!

Here is some more details on this option:
http://www.acronis.com/support/documentation/ABR11/index.html#10483.html

In regards to ABR10 loosing credentials I have not seen this for a while so please ensure you are running the latest builds of the software. If you already are and still seeing the same issues please ensure to use the full username (eg,’ machinename\username’) this will ensure the authentication is being passed onto the remote computer correctly and there is no guessing involved for the destination weather to be authenticating via another PC, domain or locally..etc..etc..

Another thing to keep in mind is IF you have setup a Managed vault on your storage node that is connected to a NAS unit for example... the storage node will need the NAS units username and password when setting up the vault (eg, ‘nasunitname\localuser’) but when your clients connect to this managed vault the storage node computername\user is required as it’s basically the gateway to the NAS unit! (so your plans will required you to authenticate with the Storage node and NOT the NAS unit as that side is being managed by Acronis)

Hope some of that is useful.. all the best!

We only use personal vaults and we also dont swap out the usb drives, they stay connected. I will double check the build #'s to make sure they are fully updated. I'll let you know what I find.
