Maint of disk space used by backup
Hi,
Using Backup & Recovery 11.
First Issue: Have had a warning about low space on the vault.
A week ago I went and excluded a large number of "downloads" and other redundant data on the backup job. I also reduced the retention of weekly from 6 weeks to 3. This doesn't seem to have fixed the free space issue, free space is unchanged, the backup jobs are completing OK still.
It's running a GFS Scheme
Original retention settings were 5 Days, 6 weeks and 1 year for monthly
Last week I altered this to 3 weekly backups from 6 and excluded a heap of redundant data folders on the server
Today I've changed it to 6 monthly instead of the 12 (1 year)
I guess I'm going to have to manually delete the 6 older monthly backups myself as it doesn't seem to have done this itself.
2ndly - I want to know if I can do item/mail level recovery from this software, is there anything special I need to enable?
If I had more time I would try messing about with it myself, but I'm thinking there is a lot more knowledge here than I have on the product, so thanks for any input you will have to this.
Also the naming of the TIB Files - can I make it more intuitive so I know which is Monthly, Weekly and daily?
I can see the Daily Full, then files numbered D2-5 indicating the 5 daily backups, but it's hard to tell which of the backups is the weekly, and the Monthly is never on the same date, so who knows there....
See the attachment
The monthly retained backups dates vary between the 10th and 26th of the month? How does this work?

Hello Fedor - Thanks for your assistance here
If you look at the screenshot attached, can you explain the variation in dates of the monthly retained backups?
As I said, they appear to vary from 10-26th of the month.
Also - I would imagine the backup should manage it's used space better, and if I reduce the content of the backup significantly I would expect to see an increase in free space in the vault?
I also reduced the retention on the GFS setup - that appears to have done nothing.
Is there a maint period or job that runs to look at these things?

The only thing I can't explain is why after 10/01/2014 the next full is on 21/02/2014 . The rest is explained by 28-days periods of monthly fulls.
I don't know when exactly new retention scheme will take effect, if it didn't yet - maybe when the next monthly is created. In either case you can delete the older backups from console interface (in vault-> delete backups)
