Managed Machine Service Not Work in Windows SBS 2011

Thread needs solution

I try to install Acronis Backup and Recover 10 in Windows SBS 2011 without any error but unable to start the managed machine service. The function being hided, do any one knows how to solve it?

I use it without any problem in Windows SBS 2003 and now upgrade to a new server.

Hello Patrick,

Welcome to our Forum, it's nice to have you with us. I understand your concern, and will be glad to assist you with the question.

From your description it's not really clear what's going on. Correct me if I'm wrong:

You're going to Start -> Run -> services.msc, there you find MMS service. It's disabled, so you right-click on it to choose "Start" - but the option is greyed out?

If I'm right, then the most possible cause is corrupted installation of the software, it might be fixed by repairing the installation.

If you receive the messages that MMS service is not started, while it's set to start automatically, we will need to look into the problem. Please gather Acronis Info from the problem machine, and share it with us here. We will be able to check the information and possibly find a solution.

Let me know if something seems confusing, I will be glad to clarify.

Thank you.

I going to Start -> Run -> services.msc, I CAN'T find MMS service that allow me to start. There are number of Acronis already started without problem but only miss MMS service.

I install Acronis to New Server (Win 2008 R2) and Old Server (Win 2003 SP1) still running. Is that I need to revoke the license in old server and invoke the license in new server?

When I install Acronis in New Server, Window Agent can't install and it show a "Lock" beside it and say require license. When I choose existing license key file, it still not let me to install. I don't know if it's the reason that I can't use Manage Local Machine.

It is the reason. Managed Machine Service is installed with Agent. With ABR10 Advanced editions, you have to use license server, and if there are no free licenses on it, a currently used license has to be revoked first from the old agent. Or you can install License Server on the new server first and inport license into it. Btw, does the license match the server type? (agent will not install with SBS license on regular server)

I'm current using ABR 10 SBS Edition, it can use in Windows SBS 2003 without problem but I want to know if it support Windows SBS 2011?
