Manually Consolidate Spit Backups
While running ABR10 Advanced Server during the initial image creation over a local FTP server the image archive is automatically split into 2GB chunks. Once the backup is complete how can the image be consolidated into once single archive?
Thank you!
Jason

Are you referring to this command;
trueimagecmd /consolidate /filename:\\smbsrv\Archives\Kons.tib /target_filename:D:\Kons_new.tib /include pits:2,4,5
Also does the command get typed into the windows cmd prompt? And can it be done on the management server vs the actual machine the backups were created and sent from?
Thx Anton!

Hello Jason,
Thank you for getting back to me!
Please make sure that you have underscores in this part: /include_pits:2,4,5
You need to run this command from the cmd on the agent machine. If I am not mistaken, you want to consolidate backups directly from the ftp, is it shared because the path that you are using is \\smbsrv?
Let me know if you have additional questions.
Thank you.

When I try and run the pit command "trueimagecmd /pit_info /filename:D:\root\****\F Drive (DATA)\**** full data f drive image normal 256 04102010_2010_04_15_10_19_11_537D1.TIB
I receive " "ERROR! unable to open archive (1)."
The archive is password protected or encrypted is there a place to add the password into the command line?

I called Support and since the drive the archive is located on is a usb external there is no password. Although the image is encrypted 256 AES with a password.
no matter what i do i get "ERROR! Unable to open source archive"
I believe my command is correct.
Pls note i am using Backup/Recovery 10 Avanced Server not True Image Echo Enterprise.
Thx!

the error was cused by spaces in my backup name "backup 1.tib"
how do you run the consolidation command on a backup with spaces in the name?

Hello Jason,
Thank you for replying.
Have you tried putting quotation marks for your backup location? For example -
trueimagecmd /pit_info /filename:"D:\root\****\F Drive (DATA)\**** full data f drive image normal 256 04102010_2010_04_15_10_19_11_537D1.TIB"
If it fails to work, please contact our support so that we can determine the exact cause of this failure.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
Thank you.

The official documentation does not include the underscore in /include_pits. This should be updated ASAP as I spent over an hour following the command specified in the manual closely only to find that there was a typo.

Yes there are several type errors. It took me several hours to properly consolidate.
Can Acronis please add back the consolidation wizard into the GUI as it was in True Image. For us it is a commonly used feature.

Hello all,
Thank you very much for your feedback.
Bryce,
I am extremely sorry for the inconvenience, I have already forwarded this problem to the responsible persons and this will definitely get fixed.
MyOnSiteIT,
I will create a Customer Listening Ticket for this request so that our Development team can implement this feature in a future release of our software.
Please let me know if you have additional questions.
Thank you.

No offence but a command line tool to consolidate backups?! What was wrong with the TrueImage interface? Couldn't it be migrated to the new ABR10 console?
Do we have a timeframe the "consolidation" functionalities will be added to the GUI? Is there a 'public' feature request ID we can track?
Thanks!

Hello lkj klj,
Thank you for your post. I will be happy to assist you.
Please accept my apologies for the inconvenience. I will create another Customer Listening Ticket for your request and forward it to our Development team, thank you very much for your feedback.
Unfortunately I do not have a time frame for this, I can recommend to subscribe to our newsletter so that you can keep track of update information and release notes for each build.
Also, as a workaround, to consolidate backups you can try using retention rules. Please check this article for examples.
Let me know if there is anything else I can assist you with.
Thank you.

Thank you for your answer, sorry to be a nag.. So basically in this configuration an incremental backup will be performed every saturday at 12:00 and after the backup (as the retention rule states) the existing full backup and the just created incremental backup will be automatically consolidated?
Thanks you again.

Hello Marius,
Thank you for getting back to me.
Since you have chosen a slightly different setup which is provided in the article, I have re-created your scenario on my virtual machine.
What happened was, I started the task and 1 full backup was created. I started the task again and 1 incremental backup was created. I started the task the third time and it created 1 full backup and got rid of the previous 2.
If you need additional assistance, or have any other questions please let me know.
Thank you.

This is what I don't understand - "I started the task the third time and it created 1 full backup and got rid of the previous 2." Why did it create a full backup? As I understand the process after the first incremental archive was created it should have consolidated it right away.
What setup would you suggest for this scenario? (Create an incremental archive and consolidate it after its creation)
Thanks again :)

Hello Marius,
Thank you for replying.
I apologize that my phrase was not clear enough, I wanted to say that on the 3rd run, the program consolidates the previous 2 backups into a new full backup.
I was wondering if you can clarify your scenario a little bit because the Knowledge Base article that I offered you, provides the same solution. It creates 1 full backup and then consolidates the incremental on the 3rd run. If you are thinking for creating only incremental backups, that will not be possible. The incremental backup always needs a full one. You can use this article for additional information.
If there is anything else I can assist you with, please let me know.
Thank you.

I understand now, I thought at the 2-nd step the incremental would be consolidated automatically. So the consolidation takes place at the 2-nd incremental archive.
I thought the "Keep archive size within: 1 MB" option referred to the combined size of the initial full backup and the second increment.
Thanks again.
