Mounting old TI Echo TIB file (which ends in a number in it's name) fails with ABR 11

Thread needs solution

I was just evaluating ABR11, and wanted to make sure I could still mount/recover from our current TI Echo TIB files. However I got an error...

Actions -> Mount Image, Source archive..., browse, no images shown. Show TIB files. It showed my file "C_Drive 2011 01 04.tib", Click it, click OK. And I got the following error:-

---------------------------------------------------------------------
Failed to check the backup archive.
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Also tried staying on the Show Archives "tab", clicked Refresh, and it then made an XML file and then saw my TIB file. Same error though.

Deleted the XML file. So back to normal.

SOLVED THIS BY RENAMING THE FILE with underscores instead of spaces.ie. "C_Drive 2011_01_04.tib". Refresh. Click it. Entered the password (it's password protected - not sure if that's relevant to this), and BINGO! It worked.

Hope this helps others..... until Acronis fix it. ...I look forward to Acronis reply :-)

Regards,

Barry

ps. The Reason for looking at ABR11 is new machines/hardware support required re UEFI and GPT on some of our newer workstations.

pps. Hate the new UI. Would like TI Echo interface back again.

Hmmm.... scrub that. It didn't error on the Show Archives "tab" but it actually failed to do anything. If using the TIB tab, it still comes up with an error.

Any ideas ? Is it because I'm trying to mount image / restore an old TI Echo image file which is password protected / encrypted ?

I need to know that we can mount/recover old TIB files with new B&R 11.

Cheers,

Barry.

Try to rename it so that it doesn't end with number, e.g. C_Drive 2011 01 04_.tib'. Not sure if it will help. Also, could you please clarify ' failed to do anything' - 'source archive' selection doesn't change after you close this dialog?

Short Answer / Work Around:
---------------------------
* Renaming with underscores does not solve it, we still get "C_Drive 2011_01_.xml" and error etc.
* Renaming with z "z" on the end, eg. "C_Drive 2011_01_04z.tib" (basically as you say, don't have it ending with a number), and that works.
* Finally back to original name, but with "z" on the end, eg. "C_Drive 2011 01 04z.tib", and again it works.

So (as you thought) it's having a TIB file ending in a number which is the problem!!! :-(

And it doesn't work at all using the "Show TIB files" option.

I will change subject line (if I can) to reflect this.

What I tried:
-------------
(for Acronis support - seeing as there's still a problem there!)

Renamed the file to be "CDrive.tib" (same one as before but renamed it to remove numbers spaces underscores etc) and put it in a top level directory on my 2nd hard disk, D:\Acronis

No other Acronis catalog or xml files there.

Rebooted.

I'm on Windows 7 x64 SP1 and all updates applied.

Ran ABR 11 (Build 11.0.17438) (Trial - I'm on day 2 of evaluation). Right-clicked and ran as Administrator (just in case!)

Selected "Mounted images" screen.
Mount image -> Source archive...
browsed to D:\Acronis
(nothing shown in list - "There are no items to show in this view")
Click on "Show TIB files" tab
it shows CDrive.tib
Click it, then click OK.

There is no XML files made.

Ok, so tried back to "Show archives" tab.
(nothing shown in list - "There are no items to show in this view")
no XML files made.
clicked "Refresh"
(it now shows CDrive - and it made a CDrive.xml file)
Selected CDrive
Clicked OK
It asks for password. I entered this. It says "Checking backup archive" on a dialog. Then that dialog goes away and I'm back at the Mount image screen.

Nothing happened - or so I thought! You've got to then click "Source backup..." - fair enough. I'd missed the fact that you can now click it.
Then selected the backup within this archive. C drive for me.
It then shows C under the Settings area.
I can then click "Do not mount" (!!!), then tick C drive, assign letter F, finally click OK at the bottom of the screen
"Mounting..."
wait
wait
(it's 58GB in size)
wait
(made a cup of tea)
wait
FINALLY it then mounted the image as F: drive.

So, ignoring the fact you can't do it from "Show TIB files", rebooted and renamed back to "C_Drive 2011 01 04.tib", deleting the XML file again,
when on the "Show archives" tab, and refresh it makes a "C_Drive 2011 01 .xml" file. Note the missing "04".

This gives :-

---------------------------------------------------------------------
Error
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Failed to check the backup archive.

Renaming with underscores does not solve it, we still get "C_Drive 2011_01_.xml" and error etc.

Renaming with z "z" on the end, eg. "C_Drive 2011_01_04z.tib" (basically as you say, don't have it ending with a number), and that works.

Finally back to original name, but with "z" on the end, eg. "C_Drive 2011 01 04z.tib", and again it works.

So it's having a TIB file ending in a number which is the problem!!! :-(

And it doesn't work at all using the "Show TIB files" option.

The XML file generated had the last name incorrect :-

C_Drive 2011 01 & # 32 ;

If this is edited to be :-

C_Drive 2011 01 04

And I click refresh, then I can use the TIB files with the original filename. It's the initial generation of the XML file which is at fault.

(Show TIBs option is still a problem)
