With or without universal restore?

Thread needs solution

Hello everyone,

I use Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 workstation with universal restore.
I have tried on my PC Windows XP SP2 ( Asus P5P41D motherboard) different images created on Dell PC, HP PC, Aspire laptop etc licensed Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 workstation on all & they all work on my PC without universal restore & different combinations for example Dell PC to HP PC - HP PC to Aspire laptop.

All of the above machines boot up fine & then ask for drivers - graphics & sound etc.
So do i still need to use universal restore? or when do i need to use universal restore?

Please help, This has been bugging me awhile.

Thank you very much,
Mo Jangeer

Hi Mo,

You have probably just been "lucky" that your systems have restored to different hardware and brands. Generally you will get the Windows BSOD when Windows XP can't find the storage drivers to access your drive(s).

Generally speaking if you are restoring a system to a mainboard with the same (or similar) chipset, you might get lucky. i.e. Intel chipset to Intel chipset or VIA to VIA etc. It will also help if the mainboards are of similar age.

Try restoring an Intel based chipset image to a VIA AMD system, and you will be in trouble. The Universal Restore option will "usually" overcome this, and hence makes it a handy addition.

Cheers,
