Password and encrypted drive - Safegaurd Easy

Thread needs solution

I have a work machine encrypted with SafeGaurd Easy that has been imaged multiple times. When attempting access to access the backup archive I'm prompted for a password. The images were not created with an Acronis password and the default options in the Acronis install does not have a password set, or at least the options fields are blank. Acronis was installed after SafeGaurd Easy. Any idea where this password is coming from?

Hello Ed!

Welcome to Acronis Forum and thank you for finding time to open the thread regarding the issue, I will be glad to help you!

Unfortunately it is hard to say what credentials you've been asked for. In case you're prompted for a password when browsing the target location it means that in order to access the shared folder you need to enter credentials of the User with full control.

In case you are asked for a password when tryng to recover/mount/explore the image - most probably it's asking for the file system access. It could have happened due to the conflict between encryption of the drive and our backup software.

I regret to inform you that our software may conflict with software that encrypts files or partition structure. It happens due to the snapshot creation - should the drive or file system be encrypted it may fail to properly access them.

You can see all possible scenarios here, also please note that the product can recognise the backup of the encrypted system as password protected. Best solution here would be to turn off encryption.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!  Any feedback will be appreciated.

Thank you!

Its asking be for the password when I explore the image. I have access to the file and folders. No problem there. I didn't put an Accronis password on it so I don't know where its coming from. I know my SafeGuard Easy password (not the admin password) and that does not work to unlock the image.

Hello ed zappulla,

Thank you very much for getting back to us.

Most likely our software, because of encryption, detects the images as corrupt, and asks for the password. As Yana suggested in her previous reply to you, we do have limitations when working with encrypted partitions.

The most reliable way to work with encrypted partitions, would be to create a raw (sector-by-sector) backup of an encrypted partition when booted from the bootable CD. If the OS fails to boot after restoring an encrypted partition, you can always try this solution.

Thank you.

OK. Got it. I thought it was something along those lines. I don't want to actually restore the image. I want to browse it.
