Performing a universal restore of a 32-bit OS to 64-bit hardware
We currently use the latest build of Acronis Echo Server & Universal Restore. Currently, we have a Windows 2003 R2 Standard 32-bit OS on an HP Proliant DL380 G4 machine. This box is a domain controller.
We would like to take an image of this machine and restore this to an HP Proliant DL 380 G6 server which is a 64-bit machiner. Granted we would follow your document on restoring a domain controller to dissimilar hardware.
Question
Can you restore a Windows 2003 R2 standard 32-bit OS that is running on 32-bit hardware to a 64-bit hardware machine? If so, how would this impact performance and reliability? I'm thinking that this process will work and that we wouldn't be utiliziing the 64-bit server's capabilities, therefore performance should not be an issue.
thoughts?
Thanks
Jamie
