Hello Ronald!
Thank you for opening the thread regarding this issue, I will be glad to assist you!
I assume that there is something left on your system that's related to the previous installation. I would also like to notify you, that build 11105 is an outdated one, and it is better to use the latest one. In order to resolve the issue I'd suggest you to follow the below steps:
- Regsiter you Backup and Recovery license to your account here. After that you will be able to download the latest build of it from here.
- Download the latest build of the software (11639)
- Clear your system from Acronis Backup and Recovery with the help of Acronis Backup and Recovery Clean Up utility.
- Install the product from the build 11639
Should the issue persist, please obtain the following info:
After that please submit a support request and let us know the case number so that we could make sure it is handled in a proper way.
Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!
Thank you.

Hello Ronald,
Thank you very much for getting back to us.
To be able to resolve this specific installation issue we definitely need the MSI log. It contains exact information that will help us to determine what causes this installation failure. Please check the following article in our Knowledge Base that explains how to generate an MSI log.
If you have any other questions, please let us know.
Thank you.

"If installation of any of Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 components fails in Windows, it will automatically offer you to view the MSI log:"
IT DOES NOT OFFER THIS TO ME!!!!
IT ONLY GOES ABOUT 3 SECONDS AND DISPLAYS THAT ERROR...
IT DOES NOT HAVE OPTION FOR MSI LOG.
MSI LOG IS NOT AVAILABLE!

Dear Ronald,
I'm very sorry for the misunderstanding caused. There is another way of gathering MSI log for Acronis Backup and Recovery, it's descrived in the article, but we should have pointed you directly, since it may seem unclear. I'm very sorry for this misunderstanding and will be glad to clarify.
In order to obtain MSI log manually, please run the installation file and choose "Extract components". Save it to any suitable location, for instance, D:\AcronisFolder. Then please
- Go to the Run prompt (Start -> Run);
- Issue the following command:
msiexec /i msi-filepath /l*v log-filepath
where msi-filepath is the full path (including the file name) to the file you extracted in steps 2-3 and log-filepath is the full path (also including the file name) to the log file you want to save the output to
(!) The /i and /l*v parameters are separated with spaces from msiexec and msi-filepath
For example, msiexec /i D:\AcronisFolder\ABR.msi /l*v c:\installation.log
(!) If there are spaces in the path, please put the path in quotation marks. E.g, msiexec /i "C:\Documents and Settings\User\Desktop\AcronisTrueImage.msi" /l*v c:\log-name.log - Reproduce the problem and send us the log file created during the installation.
After that please contact support directly. Should there be any procrastination with the reply, let us know, we will speed up the process.
Thank you once again for understanding and cooperation.

Hello Ronald Aker,
Thank you for your reply and I appreciate the log file.
It appears that a registry value from one of our software's previous installations, is causing the current installation to fail.
Please make sure you are using the latest build of our software, which is 11639.
To get this specific installation issue resolved, you will need to delete a registry key, and then run the installer once more. I am confident that you will be able to proceed with the installation after that.
Before deleting the registry value, I would recommend to extract it and save it somewhere, in case there is a problem after deleting that registry value, you can always import it back.
Please check this article from the Microsoft Knowledge Base that shows how to export, delete and import registry keys.
Export and delete the following key: HKLM\Software\Classes\Installer\Products\16A95809713C9B84E813B4476211DF91
Try the installation one more time and I am sure this issue will be resolved.
Do you think you could also send me a PM with this registry key attached? We are currently working on optimizing our software, so that in the future, such installation issues can be resolved much, much faster.
If you have any other questions or issues, please let me know.
Thank you.

I'm trying to upgrade Acronis Backup&Recovery Workstation 10 to Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 Advanced Workstation on my Win 7 machine.
When I run the setup file (ABR11A_17438_en-US.exe) I get the following message after about 2 minutes.
"Preparation for install had failed"
"Another Edition of Acronis Backup & recovery 11 is already installed on the machine. Please uninstall the current edition first and then restart the installer."
I do not have 11 installed.
I have also tried this upgrade on an XP computer with the exact same results.

Error message may be misleading. It complains about version 10, because Advanced Workstation can't be installed as upgrade of 'workstation' (standalone). Clean install using upgrade keys is not possible too, because standalone keys of Backup&Recovery 10 won't be accepted by 'Backup & Recovery 11 Advanced Workstation'
