Problem creating virtual machines
Hello, doe s anyone else have problems creating Microsoft virtual machines with Acronis Backup and Restore?
If I create tasks to do this they invariably fail or seem to get stuck at 100% and never get cleared from the console. When I used to use Echo Workstation I would create the virtual machines manually by booting from the Acronis ISO and then pointing it to the relevant TIB file. This worked fine (using Universal Restore) but it was laborious (especially if you have to create over 200 machines in this way). ABR10 looked like being a solution but it just isn't reliable. I thought I would go back to creating my machines manually but once I've built the virtual machine from the TIB I've discovered that it won't boot into the operating system. I've tried it with 5 different backups and I always get the same message, effectively "error reading disk". If I mount the VHD file I've created it looks like an exact replica of the original disk so I can't see why it won't boot. If I take the TIB file and convert it to a virtual PC using the command line option it works fine and creates a bootable machine (so I know the TIB is fine). I'm not using the very latest build of ABR10 but I don't really want to risk that upgrade as from what I've read I could end up having to reinstall everything from scratch and with a disaster recovery test looming I just can't go down that route. Anyone with a similar experience?
