Procedure on how to manually delete old archive jobs

Thread needs solution

Hey guys, I have about 693 completed backups (mostly incrementals) in one of my vaults. I want to do some clean up, but whenever I use the GUI, it takes a very long time to load just to view the 693 backups.

After that, I try to delete a handful of them, but apparently it fails to delete them.

What is the proper procedure to manually delete SOME of the archives without screwing everything up? I can clearly see which TIB files I want/need for full restores based on the timestamps.

Is it safe for me to just backup those .TIB files manually, wipe out the vault and start over?

I am using #11345. Before anyone suggests I upgrade though, realize that if the upgrade fails, I have probably just created ten more problems.

Hello Caroll,

Thank you for your question. I will definitely help you with it.

I will not recommend to update to the latest build considering your description of the environment. You can try and move the backup files you need to another location and then delete the rest of the files. After that, delete the vault and re-create it from scratch. Then, create a new backup task and maybe, you can try setting it up to create less incremental backups.

This way, you can avoid any potential recovery issues in case you lose some of your incremental backups, and also you can decrease the amount of files, so that in the future you can browse/manage them more efficiently.

As for the backups that you need, that you have moved to another location, you can still keep them there in case of an emergency. You can always recover from them. However, you will not be able to create a new task appending to them, considering the way our software works with backup files. You are probably aware of the discussion we have been having on the forum, about our software not overwriting files.

After re-creating the backup task and creating a full backup, I am sure that you can delete those backup from the other location, since you will have a new safe backup.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.
