ProtectCommand: Failed to execute the command Backups Failing Error 41

Thread needs solution

I am stumped. I have been trying all day to get a backup of a Hyper-V VM. Tried relicensing, changing VSS providers, alternate backup loacations (USB,UNC and FTP), changing the simultaneous VM Back #.

Hope some one has come across this one and can help.

Here is the error log below and attached is the system information dump.

 Hello Dirk,

Thank you for posting, I will be happy to assist you.

This error appears during volume snapshot creation. Acronis Backup & Recovery uses Microsoft VSS service and MS Hyper-V VSS provider to backup the Hyper-V VMs at the hypervisor level. Please follow this article to troubleshoot the VSS snapshot issue: Acronis Backup & Recovery: VSS Troubleshooting Guide. You have to make sure that:

  • VSS snapshot works correctly with Hyper-V VSS provider. See Using DiskShadow to Determine Issues with VSS.
  • Microsoft VSS Provider is used in backup settings.
  • Check the Windows Event log on the host and look for known issues. I did not notice any VSS-related error in attached log.

See also Acronis Backup & Recovery: Virtual Machine Backup Troubleshooting Guide for more details about VM backup troubleshooting.

Let me know if you will need further assistance in troubleshooting this issue.

Thank you,
