Question about License Server

Thread needs solution

Hello,

We are an OEM of industrial machinery and supply a license for Acronis True Image Echo Workstation with each machine and with our traveling service engineers. Any of our service engineers can access these machines remotely as long as Management Console was installed. Now with the release of Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 AW, I think it is not possible, because the license keys must be part of license server. Other than importing the customers license keys into License Server at each site, is there any other way to connect to the customers machines remotely?

Also, is it possible to install the agent with a license and not use license server like with the old software?

Acronis True Image Echo Workstation has been working great for us and in the meantime we downgrade the license keys due to the complex issues the new version is causing.

Hello JBswift,

Thank you for your question, let me help you with it and shed some light on the situation.

Unfortunately there is no opportunity to install the Agent in the Acronis Backup and Recovery without using the License Server, but in this case we can use a workaround:

As far as we need the License Server only during the process of installation, you can install the License Server first onto the machine in question, add there one license and proceed with the Agent installation. After that you can safely remove the License Server from the machine.

I must say we do appreciate your comments regarding Acronis True Image Echo Workstation, and it is highly upsetting to know that our new version brings you issues. I will be glad to assist you with all your question regarding it, so feel free to share your concerns with us.

Thank you!

Afaik agent can work up to 30 days without connection to license server, so if you can make machines access license server from time to time, it's ok. (It will display warning on the dashboard and maybe spam log with warnings) However, I woulnd't recommend uninstalling license server that was installed on workstation itself - Agent will stop working after 30 days.

Hi Yana,

Thankyou for your reply. Since my post, we actually have an agreement with Acronis and special license keys where ABR10AW installs exactly like ATIEW without the need for license server ever. This is a special production key, not a trial version that is available and tested by most all of your customers.

I do have one additional comment regarding ABR10AW and Microsoft SQL installation. We already have SQL installed by other software we use. After installing ABR10AW, your software takes control of the SQL servers of our other products. After uninstalling, your SQL server still has control. You may want to have your developers look into this situation. After we are fully finished testing ABR10AW, universal restore and deduplication, we will submit a very detailed bug report for the latest build.

Hello all!

First of all thanks dev-anon for the comment regarding 30 days - I would like to confirm that it is perfectly correct, and you should have the License Server installed anyway.

Dear JBswift, thank you for your reply and for the details specified - I really appreciate it. I will definitely forward your comment to our Development team regarding the SQL database, and would appreciate if you could kindly give me additional details regarding the case.

I would also appreciate if you could forward to us all your concerns and comments regarding the product - we appreciate any feedback, as it helps to improve the program greatly.

Should you have any further questions - just let us know, we will be glad to help!

Thank you!
