Question regarding Backups off bootable media vs in Windows environment
I am at a point of having to restore some directories on Windows 2008 server standard. I took a backup of the volume and the file system while I was in Windows. I also took a backup of the file system from the boot media thinking it may be a better backup since all Windows services would be shut. Does it really matter?
My problem is I backed out of Windows 2008 SP2 to get around an issue with a database. Turns out it wasn't SP2, it was something else. I get an error code 8000FFFF when trying to re-apply SP2. My thinking is I will just restore the Windows directory to its state before I applied all the windows updates. Will this work or do i need to also restore the system volume foler? I know this is a Windows question but just thought i would tap every resource possible.
