Raid 0 to single drive
Hi all
I am awaiting a new PC from Dell. It has 2 X 1TB hard drives in a Raid 0 Config. I want this on just 1 drive with the other spare in the machine.
I do not have any acronis software yet but only want to buy if I can do this
In simple terms can I image the raid set up and then stick the image on just one of the 1TB drives leaving the other spare?
Thanks
Phil
Operating system Windows 7 64

Hello all,
Thank you very much for your posts. I am sorry for not replying earlier but I will definitely help you with this.
Phil Trewren and Jeffrey Rankin,
If you intend to connect your new hard drives to the same RAID controller, then I see no major issues with this, it can be done either with Acronis True Image 2010 Home or Migrate Easy 7.0. Please make sure that your new hard drive has enough storage capacity to fit the previous image/clone onto it.
In case you are planning to use a different hard drive controller, then I would recommend using Acronis True Image 2010 Home Universal Restore feature, so that you can restore to the new hard drive and provide the new controller drivers during the restore procedure. All of this is explained in this article in greater detail.
Jeffrey Rankin,
There are no specific instructions except for the standard cloning procedures. You can read more about them here.
I would also recommend checking out these forum posts by our users that explain the difference between restoring and cloning, talk about cloning in general and the benefits of cloning rather then creating a backup image.
Please let me know if you have additional questions.
Thank you.

I have been attempting to do the same thing, clone a 250 GB RAID0 array to a single 1 TB Drive. None of the usual cloning products have worked due to the RAID controller being SOFTWARE. I know there are several solutions to hardware RAID controllers. I have tried Bart's PE with True Image, but it only sees individual hard drives, and not the array. I have even used Windows 7 built-in backup that creates an image, and tried to restore, but I end up with an unbootable drive.
If there is an Acronis product that can clone a software RAID0 array to a single drive, i will purchase it in a heartbeat. Please let me know with a simple yes or no if this is doable. Thank you.

Hello Gerald,
Thank you for your message. I will do my best to resolve this for you.
Instead of cloning, have you tried restoring with a resize?
Can you please provide me with additional information about the unsuccessful cloning, list your steps and let me know what happens and what errors occur, if any.
You can also try creating a WinPe disk.
Please let me know if you have additional questions.
Thank you.

Hello Anton,
Thank you for your prompt reply. However, I was able to accomplish the RAID0 to a single drive clone using Acronis True Image Home 2011 with the Plus Pack. Worked out fine, the new drive booted up w/o problem, and all is well. The only strange thing is that I had to do a boot repair on the RAID0 array before it would boot after the clone.
Anyway, your product worked, and i am pleased. Thank you.
