Recover from backup, not clone.
We have Backup and Recovery 11 standalone. Daily we copy drive C: to usb drive and I also keep three current copys of TIB file on the 2nd HD which is the same size . ( We have Server 2003)
If drive C: fails I want to be able to easily restore and start system. Cloning was told to me to be the best way. When I tried to do disk management right click (for clone) option, nothing happens. I don't want to have to boot off CD to clone - we need system up all times. Then in forum I saw the following:
"For most of us, the preferred method is to create regular full backups and the backup should include all partitions so that the entire contents of the disk is included in the backup. This type backup can then be used to create an identical duplicate replacement."
so that is telling me I can recreate the system (C:) from one of the full backups?
I need to be sure I am reading that right. Or if not, why isn't clone option showing up when right clicking drive management. Thanks.

I attached screen shot. This shows where I find drive management - I actually need to turn off USB drive for physical C and D to show up. But once they do, right click does not give me clone or anything as an option.
Regarding 1), when you said restore archive on new disk, do you mean an entirely new drive if C fails or restore to drive archive is on (D) and then make that C?
Thanks.

I meant restore on a the only new disk installed, but if you need an ability to instantly swap in the new disk , you can do restore to the second disk. You probably can re-run the restore task unchanged (i.e. to create the new one as restore tasks can't be edited) if you select 'keep existing NT signature' option. ... but as you need to use the new (latest) archive every time, you'll have to recreate the task anyway. Unless you utilize command line.

Still not quite sure but I think I have it.
Drive 0 has C: and D: partitions. Drive is 500gb.
We back up to drive 1 (G:) all of Drive 0. (C & D) Backups about 100 gb. Drive is 500gb.
So if Drive 0 fails, I could boot off Acronis DVD and either restore most current backup on Drive 1 (G:) to itself since it would now be Drive 0.
Or I can have another Drive on the shelf, install that as Drive 0 and boot off Acronis DVD to restore last backup on G: to the NEW Drive 0 - which would have partitions C: and D:.
Sound right?
Thanks.

Overall sounds right. But - you can't restore a backup from the disk to itself unless you pre-partition the G drive to have three partitions - 'future C', 'future D' and 'backups'. If you have the only partition with backup, you won't be able to restore it on itself creating two additional partitions.
