Recover from tapes using different tape drive

I am using advanced server 11.5. I have a made many backups to an HP storageworks Ultrium 3 drive. The drive recently failed and I replaced it with an Ultrium 4 drive. Ultrium 4 drives can read Ultrium 3 tapes so I thought I could recover from my older tapes.

When I put my old tapes in my drive an do an inventory, they show up with the correct name and pool so Acronis can in fact read them. However, when I try a restore job, the restore fails almost immediatley and the drive never is accessed.

I get errors like this

Are the backups harcoded to the old hardware so are no longer accessible from different hardware?
