Recovering in Windows to a larger drive.

Thread needs solution

Here is the issue. Our server is only capable of using one SATA based RAID at a time, and we are unable to boot to any bootable media.

We use a simple RAID 1 mirroring, and our controller will allow the system to still boot with only one of the two mirrors connected. Since I can do this, I've created a new mirror array on the two new larger drives, and since booted to Windows Server 2003 using one of our smaller original drives and one of the new larger ones.

I want to restore to the new hard drive, reboot with both of the new large ones attached, and use Intel Matrix to rebuild the mirror array onto the larger drive that wasn't present for the restore (because I had to boot using one of the older ones.) Hopefully that makes sense.

As I start the restoration process, I have the option to restore the MBR to the new larger drive. If I don't copy the MBR, this drive will not be bootable, correct?

If I copy the MBR, the new larger hard drive will be limited to the size of the original drive, correct?

If I let it be limited to the size of the original drives and let the RAID array rebuild itself, there is no way that I can ever resize that, as far as I can tell, right?

Thanks!
