Recovering Windows XP Home OS after drive replacement

Thread needs solution

Info: Windows XP Home, TI home 2009, Dell Dimension 3000.

I am replacing my 80GB OEM drive with a 320GB OEM drive. I have cloned my OS, programs, data, and Ubuntu 9.04 (Linux) partitions to an external USB drive. I am attempting to cover all may bases in performing the task.

After I install the new drive, if my TI recovery media gives me a problem and I have to resort to the Dell Dimension 3000 recovery CD which restores my computer to it's original configuration and it loads properly, can I then go into TI and clone the previous information i.e. OS, programs, etc. that was put on the external USB drive to the C drive effectively overwriting the original Dell Dimension 3000 programs? Thus giving me everything I have added subsequent to the original configuration.

Thanks,

Roger

Hello Roger,

Thank you for using [[http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/ | Acronis True Image]]

Everything depends upon the reason of the CD failure. If Acronis Botoable Rescue Media fails to boot, or fails to detect, for example, USB hard drive, you can be able to recover the image from within Windows. If the CD fails to perform the recovery after you hit the Proceed button, most probably you will be unable to recover the archive from within Windows.

The best way is to check the functionality of the CD before you really need it for the recovery purposes. You can recover the image to a new swapped hard drive.

Thank you.
