Recovery and clean OS install

Thread needs solution

I am about to do a clean install of Windows 7 after having done a full backup of my C drive. When I do the Recovery, will I be overwriting the new OS installation with the old, essentially leaving me in the same place I was before the recovery? If not, what will I have to do once the recovery is completed? Reinstall every program? What exactly will be recovered assuming the entire C drive was backed up?

Thanks for your time.

Hi Barry,

During the recovery you can select to either recover your entire system or just individual files... If you recover your entire image it will recover your system as it was when the machine was backed up...

If you recover individuation data files most applications in Windows will require you to re-install the applications as if you simply recover just the files things recorded in the registry and other locations will not be recovered unless you ask it to be but in that can you might as well recover your entire system.

Another thing to keep in mind is if you are wanting to achieve a fresh install of Windows for what ever reason I would suggest doing the following steps: - Full system backup
- Re-install Windows and applications
- Recover any data as needed from your backup archive

You can also mount your backup archive as a drive letter if you prefer once the new OS is installed and running this way you can basically have access to your old Windows install and copy any files as needed.
