Recovery of Single Disk Backup to RAID Array

Thread needs solution

I am using True Image 2010 under Windows 7. My system is a 320Gb Seagate drive with Core2Duo, etc. I have backed up my system.

I am planning on adding more disc drives to my system to create a RAID 10 array. Is there any problem in recovering my backup to this new hardware configuration? If so, any hints on the best way to do it.

Hello Jim,

I understand the question and will do everything possible from my side to give you a clear explanation.

Since you want to recover the archive to a RAID array, you should add the necessary mass storage boot device drivers (i.e. RAID controller drivers)  into the system. To have an opportunity to do it you should purchase Acronis True Image Home 2010 Plus Pack that contains Acronis Universal Restore.

Acronis Universal Restore is a module that allows changing Windows Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL.dll) and install mass storage boot device drivers into the system.

It installs boot device drivers into the system during the recovery process, so that the operating system can boot from this boot device. If there are proper NIC drivers present in the folder with the drivers, Acronis Universal Restore will copy them into the restored system and will schedule their installation on Windows boot-up.

Please note that Acronis Universal Restore requires the drivers with  the *.inf, *.sys or *.oem extensions. You can download the drivers for your motherboard on the Vendor's web-site. If you downloaded the drivers in *.exe, *.cab, *.zip format, you should extract them first.

Please see the article for more information, it contains the description on how to apply Acronis Universal Restore.

You can learn more about Acronis True Image Home 2010 Plus Pack and purchase the add-on on this page.

Please let me know if the provided information is not clear or if you have any other question.

Thank you.
