Recoving Volume (system partition) instead of disk results in inability to boot raid drive

Thread needs solution

I have a Perc Raid drive in my Dell T701 Server.
It has 4 Volumes (Partitions) including Windows Hidden volume, the system volume (OS), and 2 data volumes.
When I backup the entire RAID with its 4 partitions and restore the complete drive I always can boot the restored environment.
If I attempt, however to restore the System Volume as a volume, not the entire disk array, and the 2 data volumes the system does not boot. (apparently NO OS found)
Since I occasionally just backup the system volume (as part of a backup routine), is there a way to restore the system volume (partition) so that I can boot? I tried to restore the MBR from another full backup, but that did not work

Thanks

Ok lets try again.
In your compeditors program "Shadow Protect" the only possibity of restore is by "Volumes" as Shadow Protect does not back up disks. When restoring a system volume the program will create the mbr and partition information and will always boot.

Acronis can back up either the disk or the volumes (partitions), but a system volume restore does not boot. I have to restore the "Drive" even if I don't restore all the rest of the partitions.

Why does this happen. I leaning towards Shadow Protect more every day. I have had 14 different Acronis Products but will not be renewing Acronis support, because I don't find much here.

Hi UDaMan

I think the best action to do would be to contact Acronis support, this is a community forum and although some Acronis officials monitor the forums when they can it’s not an official channel for support.

I’ve just done some internal testing with a multi-partitioned system and was able to restore just the boot partition in my case so there might be some other issue that you might like to get support to start investigating and provide a solution.

Also I’m not sure if you are running ABR10 or ABR 11 but there is an update for ABR11 coming out very soon, perhaps this issue has been addressed if anyone else has experiences it and reported it to support. If you are running ABR10 please ensure you are using the latest build 13762.

Would be good to hear the solution and outcome of this but as you have mentioned, during the restore phase you should be able to restore either ‘disk’ or ‘volume’ and it should work.

P.S. support can be requested from the following URL: http://www.acronis.com.au/support/contact-us.html (OR, through by using the “My Support Requests” link located in your Acronis account)
