RESTORE hangs while asking for volume 1 and voulume 2

Thread needs solution

During a restore with arcronis 2009 made on DVD#s it ask for entering volume 1 and then for volume 2,
That doesn't end, is seems it hang, becouse it always starts asking again the same volumes.

The created backups of a partion are valuated and have no errors.

But it's alway hangs at step 2 with the above questions.

Lots of DVD swapping is to be expected in TI.

Are you restoring in Windows or from the Rescue CD?

If possible what happens if you copy the DVD contents on to a hard drive so they are in one place.

Hello,

yes, I'm restoring from 2 Rescure DVD's (not CD) but during the backup session I have verifyed the backups with arcronis and without errors.

But copy to a harddrive is not possible - because the notebook just have 1 harddrive.

And if I start the session from the same harddrive it would be formated and all is gone - lol.

Hello Uwe,

Thank you for your response.

Please create Acronis Bootable Rescue Media and perform the recovery under it. You should insert Acronis Bootable Rescue Media (check the correct boot sequence in BIOS) and wait for the main program window appearance. After that you can take off the CD and insert the disk with the archive. See if the issue remains.

If this doesn't help, the only way out is to copy the content of the DVD disks into a single folder. You can create a separate partition for these purposes or use an external hard drive.

Thank you.

Hmm, maybe I have not explained it correct.

Ofcourse I use a bootable Arcornis CD. This CD works without any problems.

I have started arcrons from the bootable CD and then I make first a backup -after removing the cd- on 2 DVD's.

In a second step I verfied the backup using the acronis programm - there were no errors found - all is correct.

Then I switch off the computer and remove the old harddrive and setting in a new harddrive.

After that is done I restart the notebook again with the arconis boot CD. (Also no problem)

Then I again remove the acronis cd and set in the second DVD and try the restore option from the arcornis program.

I tell the programm where the backup is and it reads the disk for a short time - then I will prompted to insert "volume 1"

Again I do it and the programm reads it - then I will asked again to insert "Volume 2" - ok I did.

That repeats several times - insert Volume 1 and then volume 2.

No more happens.

That is my problem

I hope the you now better understood the problem.

Hello Uwe,

Thank you fro your response.

Colin is correct,  lots of DVD swapping is to be expected. Therefore, the restore to be completed please continue to swap the disks. Or copy the content of the disks into a single folder that resides on a separate partition or external HD.

Thank you.

Thank you for you quick response.

I have already finsihed a second update on different DVD's  the result is the same.

And I using arcronis Echo server and also TrueImage 2009 - normaly without problems as long as I cloning harddrives.

Even with the same boot CD which I using here for the notebook. But it's nearly impossible to use 2 hardrives with notebooks.

They are much to small and there is no room and no connector for a second drive. Maybe I can use an usb harddrive, but am not sure if arcronis 2009 that sees and work with it.

Hello Uwe,

Thank you for your response.

Acronis True Image supports USB hard drives, we do not expect any difficulties in using it neither under Winodws, nor under Acronis Bootable Rescue Media.

Thank you.

Hello again,

now I got it - with an usb harddrive it works without any problems - so as I expected it from Arcronis.

But the question still remains why it didn't work with the DVD's.

Could it be that it's better to use DVD - R instead of DVD +R (Toshiba told me).????

Brilliant!

Possible, I've had strange things happen with some DVD's and just changing brand or as you say +R to -R has got them working.

Hello all,

Thank you for using [[http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/ | Acronis True Image]]

Uwe,

If it is necessary for you to store the backups to the optical media, I would recommend you to duplicate the archives by placing them to another storage, for example, you can use the external hard drive. DVD disks are rather sensitive to the physical effects.

Thank you.

I'm an Italian user and I need help and do not know where to post.
I made the image of the operating system on drive C and D, and when I try to restore, Acronis, I wonder where I have to restore the image if disk disk C or D. Since the image is one thing I must point out?
I made the image on an external hard drive, thanks for your answer and if you can answer me via e-mail to marmosus@gmail.com thanks

Fonzio,

If you selected complete disk when you imaged then C and D are in one image file.

When you restore, you get the choice of either restoring the whole disk, that is C and D, or you can restore each partition separately.
