Restoring Files to a Clean Windows 7 Installation

Thread needs solution

I did a clean Windows 7 installation and wanted to restore files from my Windows Vista Acronis 10 backups. None of the restored programs worked. Even Acronis complained that it was not installed properly on the new HDD. Also, none of the restored websites to the new desktop worked. I would appreciate any sugggestions how I can correct the problem.

If you restore Vista's "c:\program files" (c: is for system drive) to new windows7 installation, it wouldn't work. Programs that were installed on vista may have installed drivers and written values to registry in c:\windows folder that you can't restore on the new windows7 installation. You should either reinstall them, or first restore to new drive and then upgrade from vista to win7.

I have just installed Windows 7 from XP pro and discovered that I have lost microsoft office 2003 and 2007 programmes. Never having attempted a recovery before how do I recover these from my backups in my external drive?
