Schema of backup and recovery on dissimilar hw

Thread needs solution

hello,
my pc schema is:
DISK 1 C: boot partition with XP sp3
DISK 2 d: only user data
DISK 3 E: with W2003 SERVER R2 (offcourse in this disk there is no file like boot.ini, ntldr ecc)
In C: there is boot.ini with the indication to start from disk 1 or disk 3
I made a tib with abr10 us (version 11639) for the E volume, including the mbr
Now I need to restore it in a vmware environment replicating a similar configuration.
But when I boot in the virtual pc, via ABR10 ur 11639, recovering from this tib (as before explained) I cannot find the way to evidence the flag FOR UNIVERSAL RESTORE (but advanced view is flagged).
While if I change the origin tib, with a tib made from the same pc but for the volume C, inthis case it is possibile to include the universal restore.
There is my error or is a problem ?
Thanks

Hello Massimo!

Welcome to our Forum! I completely understand your concern and will be glad to assist you.

Acronis Universal Restore appears only after detection of some OS in the image you are restoring. Since E: drive doesn't have boot.ini and other files, required for successful booting, it cannot identify Server 2003 in the image and decides it to be non-system backup.

As a workaround I would suggest you to convert the *.tib archive to the virtual machine hard drive or virtual machine itself. Please kindly check chapter 6.3.10, p. 224 in the User's Guide.
