Simple backup plan

Thread needs solution

When creating a simple backup policy it seem that the first backup should be full followed by an incremental backup according to the documentation.  When I look at the tasks that are created for the policy I don't see one for full backup.

I see tasks for:

Cleanup task

Incremental backup

I'm thinking I should have one for Full backup as well, correct?

Thanks for the help,

Steve

Hello Steve,

Thank you for using [[http://www.acronis.com/enterprise/ | Acronis Corporate Products]]

This is normal behaviour, the first full backup file will be created by the incremental backup task. The same algorythm was applied, for example, in Acronis True Image Home 2009.

Thank you.

I just upgraded a client from the True Echo Server to Acronis® Backup & Recovery™ 10 Advanced Server SBS Edition. First setup and successfully ran a Full Backup. I then setup a Simple Backup Plan and selected that exisitng Recovery 10 Full backup as the Full backup to create Incrementals. However, the Simple Backup Plan ignored my selection and created a new Full Backup. Does this plan/policy need to create its own full backup first?

I'm not quite sure what you're asking, but if you create a simple backup, although the tasks only show an incremental, it will make a Full automatically when it detects no existing full in which to increment.
I have also found that if you don't set an effective date in the backup policy, the job won't run.

" it will make a Full automatically when it detects no existing full in which to increment." This is the issue, I selected an existing Full backup but the Simple Backup ignored it and created a new one.

There is meta data that is used when it creates an archive from a policy\backup. You can't, that I know of, make a full with one policy then set up an incremental with a different policy. An incremental looks for the full based on meta data created from the backup policy. If the full wasn't created from the same policy, they would be considered different. Thus, multiple archives.

Thanks Jeff. Yes the Full was from a different policy so that is why I have two archives. I have True Image Server and Echo Servers installed for a few years and never had an issue like this. I could always do an incremental off any Full archive. I read the Recovery 10 manuals but must have missed the logic. Thanks again.
