splitting the .tib files for archiving purposes

Thread needs solution

Scenario:
January to December is a whole .tib, i just want to pick January to February backup for archiving purposes.
2 months per archive. it means 6 archives for the whole .tib.

is it possible for Acronis Backup and Recovery 11, to split a whole .tib into pieces for archiving?

Thanks in advance.

Hi James and welcome to the forum.

I just wanted to check with you the destination you are backing up to, please could you explain how this is setup. Normally with ABR11 you will get a new TIB file for every backup that is run so it’s not common to see one large file that includes allot of backups. The time I can think where this might happen is if you are running backups to d deduplicated vault where the backups will be rearranged to save disk space but if you would confirm this for us it would be helpful.

If you are backing up to a deduplicated vault you can export the required TIB files out of the managed vault and then store them for archiving.

Hi sir,

Thanks for the reply, follow up question sir, what if i have this existing .tib is it possible to split this .tib into parts? (e.g. AB.tib will become A.tib and B.tib)

if it is possible do i need to point the backup location on Manaed Vault rather Centralized vault?

Thank you! :D

Hi James

What I would suggest going is trying to double click on the TIB file or trying to restore something from that TIB file to see what dates are available for the restore. Generally a TIB file contains only one point in time snapshot so for example if you have your backups set to write to the same file name each day it’s possible you might be overwriting your previous backups if you are only seeing a single file and not individual TIB files. So checking at what dates you can restore from is going to be a good check for this.

As mentioned above the only time I can think you might have 1x larger TIB file with multipul server/instance backups is when backing upto a managed deduplication vault, in this case you will need to use the ABR11 management console to extract/build individual backup files as required.

If you can let us know if you run deduplication (or have this licenses it will help eliminate this possibility) also checking into the TIB file to see what dates you have to restore from will also help us confirm if you are in fact able to restore months back or not. Any screenshots you can provide will also be helpful for this so we can get an idea of the archive and how it’s displaying on the file system as well as the management console (Vault view)
