Sql 2005 won't start after restore

Thread needs solution

Hi,

We have a sharepoint 2007 server that include SQL 2005.

We change the domain name, so we did a full server backup.

We have to restore this backup and now SQL won't start again.

There is something wrong with the master DB.

I tough that acronis is doing a bit to bit backup. How come we can ends up with a screwup SQL 2005 when it was working fine before the backup.

Thanks

Patrick

Hello Partick!

Welcome to our Forum and thank you for finding time to report about the issue!

This problem is usually happens when the Database wasn't suspended properly during the process of the backup:

when running the full backup the DB's services should be suspended during the process snapshot creation (2 - 3 seconds). This can be done by enabling VSS in Acronis Backup and Recovery (see p. 100 - 103 in the User's Guide). Unfortunately in case the database wasn't suspended during the backup creation, we cannot guarantee the stability and safety of its data.

Acronis products are doing sector-by-sector backup in case you specify it to do so, but even in this case the DB services should be suspended.
