Swapping backup supports

Thread needs solution

Hello,
is it a good practice to swap backup supports?

I have 2 nas (Buffalo Linkstation 2TB) with the same configuration, shares, and ip addresses.
I would like to make acronis to backup to one nas the first week (from monday to sunday), and then swap the nas at the beginning of the next week (taking the unused nas at home, in order to improve security in case of theft)... and so on for every week...

Will this affect backup functionality? Would backup consolidation work anyway?

And a last question: Which is the best method (which ALWAYS work!) to make acronis backups? FTP? SMB? NFS?

Thanks

Dear Marco!

Thank you for finding time to open the thread and share your concern with us!  I understand the scenario, and will be glad to help you!

We do not expect any issues with the scenario described. We had an old issue with the retention rules with such scenario (they failed to apply properly, and the backups weren't deleted on time). The issue was related to the meta data folder, where all the information about the backups is stored, issues. But it never got reproduced on the latest - 12457 - build, so we do not expect any issues with it.

We also do have a new style of archive naming, that doesn't require meta data usage and has different style of consolidating the backups (analog of retention rules), so you may find it useful as well. Please find more details in the User's Guide, 6.2.8 Simplified naming of backup files.

Our Experts team suggest you to use SMB as most reliable solution in this case.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you!

This scenario can be achieved with any Acronis edition, depending upon OS of your system and whether you want remote management of Acronis or not.

However, keep one thing in mind that backups cannot be spanned, you need to create separate full images on both NAS boxes
