Test restore simply stops

Thread needs solution

I'm still trying to evaluate B&R and to do this, I'm doing a test restore of my PC to another PC. Anyone hazard a guess what's happening? It seems to get most of the way through the restore of the C: drive and then simply says "Stopped" with no hints in the log. See attached screenshot.

The original PC environment:

Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit
2 x 1GB SATA HDD in dynamic mode
Partitions:
1: System reserved (that W7 thing which I really must find out what it is)
2: C: drive - 100MB
3. E: drive - rest of dynamic disk

Attempting to restore to a similar PC, i.e. it's also got two hard disks but they are of different size.

Latest version of B&R v10.0.11345.

Thanks, Rob.

Hello Rob,

I will do our best to resolve the issue you experience.

In order to resolve the issue can you please clarify the following. The destination place where the backup archive resides? Have you tried to use Acronis bootable disc to restore the image? When you say a similar PC do you mean the same hardware (motherboard, CPU, graphic card, etc.)? You see the issue can be related different hardware and if this is a case then you should use Acronis Universal Restore to complete the task.

The source of the issue can also be any type of USB storage device attached to the machine during the restore (USB hard drive, card reader etc).

Temporarily detach any USB storage device that is plugged in. Perform the cloning or restore with the USB storage device detached.

If you have an inbuilt card reader, then disable it through Windows Device Manager:

  1. Hit Win-R to get to the command prompt;
  2. Type in devmgmt.msc and hit Enter;
  3. In the Device Manager window locate your card reader (it probably starts with letters SD, MMC etc);
  4. Right-click on the card reader and select Disable.

Also, as a workaround, you can try performing the same operation from Acronis Bootable Rescue Media.

Let me know if you need further assistance.

Thank you.

I'm doing some futher tests on this and I suspect it's a problem with restore and dynamic disks. The same problem occurs on restoring the backup to the same PC.

I've done some similar backups and restores on another PC without dynamic disks, and it works as expected.

Later...

Rob.
