.tib from 2008, what product to restore it?

Thread needs solution

I've inherited IT responsibilities, and need to look through a 16-cd .tib back-up of an old Windows 2003 Server made in 2008. I have no idea what product was used to create it, or how I can access the files it contains most economically. I don't need to actually restore the backup, I only need to check for the existence of a select few files, and extract them if they are there.

I would prefer to avoid purchasing software for this, if at all possible.

Thank you for any help.

The most likely version to have made the images is True Image Echo Server edition.

If the program is no longer installed on either the Server or Workstation and you can not find the copy, you can download the program or if you prefer just the CD version from the account the last IT person registered the software to.

Your other option if you don't want to or are unable to download and install Echo is to register for the trial edition of ABR11 as this will read Echo files.

You will want to use the mounting or exploring archive option in order to select individual files, here I'm assuming that these are full disk images rather than file backups, if the latter you will only be able to explore archives to recover your files.

Be prepared for much CD swapping, you might want to hire a few extra wrists and plenty of refreshments :) , I shudder to think of how many times you are going to have to swap all 16 CD's around.

Actually if you can, it might be better to copy all the CD's tib files to a hard drive, your arms will thank you as well as your sanity.

I have a old tib file made using True Imqage 8.0 which I need to restore to a new station using Windows 7. The original 8.0 program does not recognise Windows 7. I tried using a trial version of 2012 Backup and Recovery but it did not see any files in the specified drive ?

I have tried to download a trial vesion of True Image Home 2012 but each time the setup fails................. "specified file missing"

Help !!!!

Quintin,

2012 will read TI 8 tib files.

How far do you get in installing 2012 trial before the error message pops up?

Does the error information give any further detail?

I'm assuming you get the installation splash screen with install selection, if so, right click on install and select extract, then right click on the MSI installer file and select 'run as admin' and see if you get any further.

Things to check:

No policy restrictions on you installing programs onto the PC.

The firewall isn't preventing TIH from installing.
