Trying to convert a Windows 7 Pro 64 bit system from MBR boot to a UEFI boot.

Thread needs solution

Here are the steps I have taken:

  1. The target disk is uninitialized.
  2. The machine’s bios is set to boot from UEFI
  3. I have booted on the Acronis Linux based bootable media.
  4. I have restored the MBR version from my removable drive to the uninitialized target drive.
  5. After recovery, the target disk is MBR and not UEFI bootable.

According to the 11.7 manual, page 112, it states “When selecting not initialized target disk for recovery, this disk will be automatically initialized to GPT or MRB depending on the original disk partitioning style, the current boot mode (UEFI) or (BIOS)…”

On page 113 it goes on to talk about loss of bootability and the software selectin the MBR partitioning style for disk larger than 2TB.

According to my reading of page 112, the conversion to UEFI boot should have occurred during the recovery process.

I am missing something in this process.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi ECD2,

Thank you for your posting! Have you already checked the following sections of the documentation? What operating system is located on the restored image?

If the issue persists please attach photos of the settings in the recovery task. I'd also recommend downloading the latest version of Acronis Bootable Media

Thank you,
