Two servers to one tape

Thread needs solution

Hi All

I have looked into this and cannot find a definitive solution/guide etc.

I have two servers, both 2003 64 Bit. One file server, one mail server. The mail server is 2007.

I have 2 licences for Advanced Server 10 (Immediately prior to 11 being released) and MS Exchange Backup, plus on workstation which is irrelevant at this stage.

I intend to use two methods of backup. One, each server will image itself to an external USB Drive. on a suitable rotation individually.

The second method I intend to use is to backup to tape. Now do I simply backup the images created to the USB drives or can I backup the two servers to the one tape drive, live as I can with the Symantec Backup I am replacing.

The tape will then be able to be taken offsite for obvious reasons.

Thank you in advance for your replies.

Hi CFinch

What you are trying to do should not be an issue with ABR11. What you need to do is connect to your management server (not local agents) and setup the tape device on the management server/storage node. This will allow all your agents to be able to backup to the single device.

Some nice detailed instructions can be found at the following URL:
http://www.acronis.com/support/documentation/ABR11/index.html#12723.html

The option I believe you would be interested in is the second one listed (Backing up to a tape device attached to a storage node) but I though sending you the high branch of the manual will allow you to check into the other processes (eg, restores, backing up single agent..etc..etc)

Please let us know how you go and if this helps you get things up and running.

your reply is much appreciated, when i get a moment i will check out the document you refer to.

I will provide some feedback and let you know how I get on.

Once again Thx
