Unable to access backup files on external drive...

Thread needs solution

In post a week ago (http://forum.acronis.com/forum/8543), I inquired about re-booting my crashed laptop and I've now been able to do that (thanks, GroverH!). But I'm unable to access my backup files which are stored on an external drive connected to another computer on the network. The Acronis Recovery Wizard offers the option of finding the .tib files on an ftp connection. But after I put in the ftp address, the "Next" button doesn't activate.

I'm writing the ftp address as ftp://Hpdesktop/H/1stHPLAPTOPBKUP/, where the name of the computer hosting the external drive is Hpdesktop, the external drive on that computer is H and the .tib files are in a file marked 1stHPLAPTOPBKUP. I tried using the host computer's IP address but that didn't work either. There are six .tib files in "1stHPLAPTOPBKUP" and each contain six "slices"...I have to confess that I don't know what that means but assume, since they're each dated, that they're connected to the six backups I've done.

I'm unable to connect the external drive to the laptop because it doesn't have a SATA plug and I don't have a SATA-to-USB connector. The laptop doesn't have an optical drive and I can't load the .tib files onto the thumb drive containing the boot file because the thumb drive is 8 Gb and the .tib files total about 13 Gb.

I tried getting some help on the chat line but the rep simply gave me a link to a new ISO image, suggesting that the file might have been updated in the last 7 days (oh, c'mon!) and that I should just start over.

Can anyone offer some suggestions on how to gain access to my backup files using an ftp connection?

Are you absolutely certain the address is correct.

Is the reference to H a drive letter. Maybe it needs to be H: or maybe H is not needed at all. I have no way of testing for you.
