Universal restore question..

Thread needs solution

Hi

A client of us bought Acronis B&R Workstation for 6 workstations including universal restore.
I have installed this software on the server and workstations and all seems working well.

This week I want to test if an image of a workstation can be restored on a new machine (new hardware).
I have downloaded the boot cd from my Acronis user page.

Now here comes the question. Do I get the option to specify the drivers before restoring the image? Or do I have to use a different boot cd? I see that its possible to make a boot cd in the management console of Acronis. Should I make a new boot cd using this tool or can I use the boot cd I downloaded from the Acronis site?

Also I'm not quite sure how Acronis is checking if an universal restore license is availible on a workstation? Let me specifiy. I have imported the keys on the license server (including the UR keys) but do I have to install something extra besided the agent / bootable components / universal restore on the workstations? Does this UR key ad an option to the boot cd so drivers can be added?

Thx in advance.

Hello Thomas,

Thank you for posting your question. I will be happy to assist you.

You will definitely get the option to specify your mass storage drivers on the bootable CD before restoring the image. You will need to select your image and at the bottom, there will appear a Universal Restore prompt. Please take a look at my attached screenshot called Universal Restore. It shows a part of the recovery wizard in the bootable CD.

You can either use the bootable CD downloaded from your Acronis web account, or, like you correctly mentioned, the CD can be created with the Acronis Backup and Recovery 10 Management console, provided you have the media builder component installed. The optional steps to add mass storage to the boot CD created this way can be used to inject a specific set of mass storage drivers, which can then be used over and over again. For example, you have to restore a lot of computers, which need the same drivers. Instead of going through the boot CD recovery wizard and provide the drivers every single time, you can specify them once during the boot CD creation and be done with it for those specific machines.

The Acronis Backup and Recovery 10 License Server will only mark the Acronis Universal Restore license as used when you install it on a computer. After that, creation and use of the bootable CD is not controlled by the License Server. However, just in case, according to our License Policy, you will need 1 license for each machine that you either install or recover with our software.

For your convenience, I can recommend the following article, which explains how to recover with Acronis Universal Restore.
