Upgrade to BackupRecoveryAdvanced.11639_s_en.exe fails

Thread needs solution

I tried to do an upgrade for the server backup, and it failed twice. I even reset the server and it still fails.
Error Code:

Message: Installation error.

Suberror
Code: 01603

I have a copy of the install log, but I feel it is too detailed to post on the forum itself.

Thank you

I removed the Agent from the install, and had it crash at:

Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Management Console.

Hello Brian!

Welcome to Acronis Forum, thank you for joining us!

Unfortunately there can be several reasons for this error, so it is almost impossible to identify without MSI log and Acronis Info from the machine in question.

Could you please kindly contact support directly with the information attached? Should there be any procrastination with the reply feel free to specify us the case number, we will do our best to speed up the process.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Hello Brian,

Thank you for getting back to us and I appreciate the provided log.

It appears, that there are some traces of Acronis True Image Echo Server for Windows left in your system. Please do the following to remove them, and I am very confident, that you will be able to resolve this issue.

1. Use the Windows Installer Clean up utility to remove True Image Echo configuration information from your system.

2. Run the Acronis True Image Echo Clean up utility just to be certain that all traces of Echo are gone from your machine.

3. Since Acronis Backup and Recovery 10 installation failed, it would be prudent to use its clean up utility as well, to be certain that all corrupt traces of the software are gone.

If all the clean up efforts fail, please refer to Yana's previous post to submit a support request with the necessary logs to resolve this issue.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

I'll get back to you tomorrow morning as I can't restart the server until the users log off for the night. Thank you for the reply.

Hello again,
I was able to restart the server and attempt to remove the Acronis True Image Echo Server.
Except it failed at the last part: Removing SnapAPI

So I then proceeded to remove Acronis Backup and Recovery 10, which worked.

When I went to reinstall though, the Agent failed once again.

Attached is the log.

Hello Brian!

Thank you for keeping us posted and for attaching the logs file!

Logs clearly shows the error:

1: MSIGEN:
The following products will not be removed automatically because they were installed on a per-user basis (the products are available for only one user of this machine). Uninstall these products manually and then restart installation.

In this case you will have to remove everything manually. Could you please kindly follow these instructions and then reattempt the installation?

Let us know if something seems confusing, we will be glad to assist.

Thank you in advance for cooperation!

To be honest with you, I am most confused/nervous about this step:
Remove Acronis Secure Zone (see Removing Acronis Secure Zone)
Removing Acronis Secure Zone manually:
-Fix/restore the Windows Boot Loader (see Restoring Windows Boot Loader Manually) if Acronis Startup Recovery Manager is activated
-Delete the Acronis Secure Zone partition (by means of Windows Disk Management, for example)

Does this apply to Server 2003? And if so, would there be any chance of the server not booting up properly if something goes wrong? I only ask because I have yet to do a backup and am nervous of data loss.

Dear Brian!

Thank you for sharing your concerns with us, I really appreciate it.

I would like to assure you that manual uninstallation is a common procedure, and no data should be harmed in case all instructions are followed correctly.

Still should you be concerned regarding data safety, you can download Bootable Media from your account, burn it onto the CD, boot you server from it and perform an offline backup. After that you can safely proceed with uninstallation.

Let us know in case something's still confusing you or you need any assistance - we will be glad to help!

Thank you.

Hello,

Thank you for the information of how to do an offline backup, it worked great and ceased my fears.

While trying to attempt: 1624: Removing Acronis Secure Zone, I came up with a couple of issues.

When I would attemp: 1507: Restoring Windows Boot Loader Manually, I would do:
fixmbr - which would essentially do nothing
fixboot - which would work
bootcfg /rebuild - which would tell me to do a chkdsk
So when I proceeded t do a chkdsk, I noticed something interesting. The "C:" drive, was not my real C Drive, but in fact one of my removable drives.

To investigate the problem, I did:
diskpart - which showed me that I only had 2 drives connected to the computer: C - OffSite, D - Backups

So, I rebooted my computer, went to disk management, and noticed that I have this configuration:
Disk 0 : (C:)
Disk 1: Data(D:)
Disk 2: OffSite1(X:)
Disk 3: Backups(E:)
CD-ROM 0

I am planning on doing a chkdsk within Win 2003, but it will have to be done on a restart, which can be done in approximately 9 hours.

If there is something you would like to recommend me to do, or attach, just let me know. I am eager to use your new software, but nervous about not having a backup solution.

Thank you

Hello

We have the same message with update Managment server with BackupRecoveryAdvanced.11639_s_en.exe

Hello Maxence!

Welcome to our Forum and thank you for providing me with the report - it helped a lot. I understand your concern and will be happy to assist.

According to the installation log the update failed to integrate itself to the SQL server. So here we have 2 workarounds:

  1. Create additional Administrator account and connect to SQL from it
  2. Reinstall SQL

Both of these steps should resolve the issue faced, so I would appreciate if you could try this solution and let me know whether it fixed the problem.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you!
