VSS Failed?

Thread needs solution

So, I have been using Arcronis bckup & Recovery 11.5 for a while but creating full backups maybe twice a year?

 

I am now in a situation where I need to do a full backup of my SSD and my RAID0 drives.

I am running Windows Server 2008 R2 EE SP1 + updates.

When I try to create a backup I get an error (which i never got before...):

Not sure why this happens however when I change the VSS Provider to "Automatic" then it works fine but I am still not convinced the backup has been full and successful even after doing the validation of the backup.

 

thoughts why this is happening and how to fix it?

Hello,

This error is caused by a problem with a VSS provider. The specific Microsoft error that is returned to our product is 0x80042306. 

If you Google this error, you will see that there isn't a single root cause for the issue, so I can't tell you the exact reason why this happens without a full investiagtion.

You mention that this  works when you set the VSS provider to automatic. Was the previous selection the Acronis provider? If yes, you generally don't want to use this provider as it is not a fully compliant and has some issues (it is used for specific scenarios and systems only).

Does it work if you select the System provider? How many providers do you have?
