Want to install Acronis Backup and Recovery alongside Veritas during trial period

Thread needs solution

I'm currently supporting a small business with a single Windows Server 2000 SP4 running Veritas Backup Exec Ver 8.6.

I'd like to replace the Veritas system with Acronis Backup and Recovery Server for Windows but I'd like to run both simultaneously first on the server.

Being a business that absolutely depends on nightly backups, I don't want to cut over from Veritas until I've thoroughly vetted Acronis.

A couple of questions:

1) Are there any problems that I should look out for when installing Acronis so that I don't disable or damage the Veritas installation?

2) Assuming I schedule the Acronis backups at a different time than the current Veritas backups, what can I do to ensure the two programs each see valid entrys in terms of archive flags.

3) Any other "gotchas" that I'm not thinking about? (i.e. I don't know what I don't know)

Thanks for the help,
Mike

Dear Mike!

Thank you for specifying the detailed scenario!

Usually we strongly do not recommend to use Acronis Recovery Solutions on the machine with another Backup Solution is installed, as far as there can be several issues due to the mess in the low-level drivers assigned to the drive. But still in case you need to have both installed, I would advise you to turn off the Veritas' services on the moment of installation of Acronis Backup and Recovery and schedule the backups on different time (it is more preferable to run the backup by means of Acronis solution when the services of Veritas are turned off).

Unfortunately we cannot guarantee that you won't face issues with usage of the Acronis Backup and Recoveru product, but we for sure will be glad to assist you with all your questions!

I would appreciate if you could keep us posted.

Thank you!
