What should Windows XP Device Manager show for ABR10?

Thread needs solution

I just upgraded from True Image 9.1 Workstation to Acronis Backup & Restore 10 Workstation build 11345 and I'm having problems with validation tasks hanging. I noticed one oddity in Device Manager: there are two Acronis devices and one of them fails to install.

Acronis Backup Archive Explorer fails to install because Windows cannot load the driver. The driver is listed as timntr.sys version 4,0,0,594.

Acronis True Image Backup Archive Explorer does install. The drivers are listed as
tifsfilt.sys version 33 build 444 and timntr.sys version 4,0,0,594.

I'm wondering if the second one is something left over from TI9.1 that's causing the other one to fail.

Can anyone tell me what I should be seeing in Device Manager?

Thanks,
Ron

Hello Ronald!

Thank you for the finding time to report about the issue and for the detailed description. I will be glad to provide you with an answer!

In the Device Manager you should be able to see Acronis True Image Backup Archive Explorer and simply Backup Archive Explorer. It is difficult to identify what exactly went wrong in your case, and we can only guess, but I assume that somehow Acronis True Image timounter, responsible for the Archive Explorer, got corrupted and prevents Acronis Backup and Recovery Archive Explorer from installation. And as you have mentioned - validation issue could have been caused by the issue with Archive Explorer as well.

As a workaround please kindly try the following steps:

   1. Uninstall Acronis True Image 9.1 Workstation using Add and Remove programs option (Control Panel -> Add and Remove programs)
   2. I would like to ask you to use Acronis Backup and Recovery Clean-up Tool. The utility removes all Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Windows components locally from the machine. It does not perform remote uninstallation.
         1. Download the utility and unpack it
         2. Hit Start -> Run, and type in cmd. Browse to the folder you saved the utility to;
         3. Run the utility by issuing one the following command:
                  abr_cleanup.exe --clean
   3. Install Acronis Backup and Recovery anew.

These steps should resolve the issue you have faced. I would appreciate if you could let me know whether anything is still confusing you, I will be glad to help!

Thank you.
