Where to install Agent for ESX?

Thread needs solution

Hi,
I'm a little confused where I have to install the Agent for ESX? Do I install it on one ESX-Server (from three) for the whole vSphere or is it necessary to install one virtual appliance on every ESX-Server?

Hello Jens!

Welcome to our Forum, we're glad to greet you here! Thank you for you question, I'll be glad to address it.

The Agent for ESX should be installed on the host. The agent allows for backing up virtual machines from the host without having to install agents on each virtual machine.

I'd also advise you to check the ABR Virtual Edition Installation Guide, you may find it useful, as it also shares some tips and explanations regarding the role of each component.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you!

Hello Yana,
thanks for the information. I have installed the Virtual Appliance in the vSphere-Cluster and it seems to work. I have created a Backuprule for the active VMs and it backs up some of the virtual machines from different hosts, but not all. I can't see why not.
