In which cases can Acronis restore from incrementals

Thread needs solution

I've been getting conflicting information, and the correct answer will influence my validation scheduled.

Scenario 1: One contingent says that if there is a failed incremental on "day 1," ABR will automatically pick up the incremental chain when the next incremental runs on "day 2," so it is expected that a restore will be possible after day 2.

Scenario 2: One contingent says that is not correct; once an incremental fails, you must begin with a fresh full.

Scenario 3: Another group says that "fail" is not the only circumstance that matters. Rather, if an incremental completes with errors - but does not actually fail - it will still prevent recovery from that point forward in the chain of incrementals.

Scenario 4: Finally, one group says (and the ABR user manual confirms this) that if an incremental is "corrupt," subsequent incrementals will not be usable to recover from. I take the word "corrupt" to mean there is an error in the incremental's data file that ABR is unaware of, and as a result it believes the backup to be successful.

Comments would be much appreciated.

Take this as my practical experience - i'm not acronis support so I may be wrong.

* if your incremental backup fails but the network stays than ABR normally deletes the failed/incomplete backup file from the destination - so your chain should stay intact (with the failed backup missing).
* if your backup chain contains a corrupt incremental, in many cases ABR detects this and starts a new full automatically. though if you have errors you should consider validating your backups and delete the corrupt ones manually.
