Which RescueMedia to use for Universal Restore when have from both old and new hardware platforms

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I am migrating my workstation from an older generation motherboard (Asus Sandy Bridge) and CPU to a newer one (Asus Haswell) after a hardware issue. I need to do a Universal Restore reload of a backup made on the old hardware to the new hardware. As part of building the new hardware, I went ahead and installed a throwaway, temporary copy of Win7x64 on it to verify that I had assembled it correctly and that the new hardware worked properly before tearing apart the old components for the move.

Both motherboards use SATA in AHCI mode. The old hardware used an SSD boot drive and a large hybrid mechanical spinning data drive while the temporary installation on the new hardware was done on a small mechanical SATA drive I had laying around. When I drop my Universal Restore from the old hardware on the new, the drives from the old machine will replace the temporary drive.

My question is about how to do Universal Restore to get the best results. I have the option of using the rescue media from the old installation. But some of the drivers for the new motherboard (audio, video, SATA, chipset, etc.) I have only as .EXE's instead of having simple directories with .INF files.

After considering that, I then thought I might get better results if the RescueMedia already knew about the drivers for the new motherboard. So I temporarily loaded B&R 10 on the new motherboard to get a RescueMedia CD which is instead matched to that hardware.

But now I'm conflicted about which RescueMedia CD would give the best results. Should I use the one made on the old motherboard that matches what is in the backup TIB I'll be dropping on the new hardware? Or would I get better results by using the RescueMedia that was generated on the temporary installation on the new hardware against the TIB generated by the last good backup on the old one?

A speedy reply would be helpful since the temporary Win7 installation on the new hardware is not activated and will expire soon.
