Win7 Connection Limit

Thread needs solution

Hi @ all,

I was wondering that nobody asked this before but I could not find any similar Thread. In our company environment we decided now to upgrade from ABR10 to ABR11. I hope that some issues with ABR10 are fixed in ABR11.

Two big issues were:
1. The client backup did not realize when the backup destination is full. The NAS device was running full and Acronis could not automatically stop the backup task. We also could not shutdown the Client Computer without forcing it (holding power button).

2. ABR10 never could delete old backups automatically, why we always moved to Issue 1. Sometimes sooner, sometimes later. Even when I tried to perform Full Backups, it was not working correctly. For what reason ever.

Does anybody know if these issues are still remaining in ABR11?

But my main question is:
I am considering to install the Management Server and License Server on a Win7 OS (before we used Win2003). But we are talking about 90 clients, which I would like to manage that way. I know that Windows 7 has a connection limit, like all the other Desktop OS. Will this connection limit also affect Acronis anyhow? Is Win2008 in that case a better choice?

Please let me know your opinion. Many thanks
Daniel

As far as I know, there no such issues were confirmed to exist in Backup & Recovery 10. It may be related to the specific environment - namely, the NAS. If you decide to upgrade, note that last current version is 11.5 , not 11.
Regarding the second question, Management Server initiates connections to agent, except for initial handshake after agent startup, so it will not be affected by connection limit. Connection to License Server is initiated from agent side, but it's supposed to be contacted only on agent service startup and then once a day, so it will not necessary become a problem. I suggest to use some other machine with server OS for the License Server though, as it is not resource-hungry and won't negatively affect other applications on that server.

Thank you for your answer, Fedor Larin. Does that mean that QNAP devices are not supported by ABR10? Even when I backup with True Image to an external HDD, the software should recognize, when no diskspace is available anymore. I see no difference to a network drive.

Regarding the Upgrade, we have already purchased in 2010 ABR10 with a free Upgrade to Version 11. But it seems we can only upgrade to Version 11. The only product I can download is "Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 Advanced Workstation Upgrade" (Filename ABR11A_17440_en-EU.exe). Can you confirm this is 11 and not 11.5?

Many thanks
Danijel

The only well-known incompatibility with QNAP is for True Image 2013. It's hard to say what's wrong with your environment just by this description. ABR11A_17440 is indeed version 11, not 11.5 .
