Acronis Online Backup performance
I have been using VMP for about a year now, and during that time I have had mixed success with the Online Backup portion.
First, the task success seems to be quite hit and miss - sometimes the job will complete successfully but often it will fail with "The operation was interrupted due to a problem with network connection to the required file. Attempting to ping for 30 seconds". When making the initial backups I had to resort to excluding most of the folders, running the task, removing an exclusion, then rerunning the task etc until all exclusions were removed.
Since then, the online backups usually run for several hours (over the weekend) and will fail with the network error. I currently have an open case with support, and the backup for this weekend seems to have completed successfully (about 30gb was copied to online). I am backing up to disk first and then using dual destination to copy the recovery point to online backup, so this rules out any backup-related issues.
My confidence in these online backups is low, due to the continuous failures and with the latest backup it had a bunch of timeout errors but shortly after said the copy was successfully completed. The "validate" function is unavailable for Online backups so I can't be 100% sure that the recovery points are good.
Secondly, just browsing the online recovery points is very slow. This makes it a pain to actually use the function. It doesn't help that it's constantly asking for the password (or in the case of backup task editor, the username and password).
I think the Online Backup feature has a lot of potential, but right now it seems to have a lot of issues that make it unreliable. Has anyone else had a similar experience?
Our internet connection is 25mbps down, 5mbps up. I have verified this using Speedtest.net using several different servers in the US. Are there any special network settings we should configure? What I don't understand is why the connection will fail for so long - it's set to rety 5 times with 30 seconds inbetween attempts, so either there is a network problem lasting over 2 minutes, or something else is going on.
